It is not exactly magic and it is certainly not rocket science.
Here is all you need to know about search engine optimization because really, this is all there is - all a search engine does is provide the information a searcher is looking for.
To accomplish this, two methods are used to give the searcher web pages that correspond to their search terms.
- Crawlers scour the internet by finding links to best match the search terms, then gather and organize that information into a database.
- Once the pertinent information is gathered and sorted, an algorithm is used to determine which pages of information should be shown and in what order of relevance (hello page rankings). The only job of the search engine is to meet the request of the searcher. The hundreds of factors involved in devising the algorithms are changed and updated with amazing frequency, so trying to outsmart the search engine is fruitless.
Knowing this, work with the search engines and make them partners. It is your job to ensure your site maximizes its chances to be found. Website content that is specific to both your site’s mission and the searchers’ needs is the critical combination.
And it is not magic.
